Edinburgh Parking

Parking your car in Edinburgh can be fun…not! Just like any capital city, finding a car park space in town is becoming more and more difficult…and expensive too.

Commuters are encouraged to use public transport and in fairness the bus network is very reliable and will take you quickly to your destination.

It costs between £1.00 and £2.60 per hour to park in a public parking bay depending on the zone you are parked.

Here are two clever ways to park in Edinburgh:

JustPark

Simple ideas are usually the best and this one is genius.

gold-star.pnggold-star.png JustPark is a brilliant website where you can find and rent a private driveway or garage in over 10,000 locations throughout the UK including in Edinburgh city centre.

You only need to choose which driveway or private garage is the most convenient for you, get in touch with the owner through the website and…that’s it.

It’s by far the smartest, easiest and cheapest solution to find a space for your car in the location that suits you.

gold-star.pnggold-star.png City Car Club

Why own a car in Edinburgh when you can hire a locally parked City Car or City Van by the hour at a moment’s notice?

City Car Club offers a real alternative to car ownership and every month hundreds of new members are discovering the many benefits of pay as you go motoring. Not only do members save considerable amounts of money over owning and maintaining their own car, but they are also able to reduce the environmental impact of their car travel by sharing City Cars with likeminded people.

Why would you use City Car Club?

The costs and hassles associated with owning a car (or two) can really add up. Insurance, servicing, MOT, tax, cleaning, parking permits, the list goes on…

But imagine if you could have access to a choice of new cars and vans parked locally to where you live and work, available 24/7, 365 days of the year. Vehicles which are serviced and maintained by someone else, that you only ever pay for when you need them, not when you don’t.

That’s exactly where City Car Club comes in.

What Membership includes:

  • Annual Subscription to City Car Club is £60
  • Access to approaching 600 cars and vans UK-wide
  • Cars range from manual to automatic and are available in small, medium and large sizes
  • On street parking bays can be found virtually everywhere in Edinburgh and the chance is you'll have one close to where you live/work
  • Comprehensive insurance
  • Free 24/7 online booking
  • 24/7 member support
  • Add a partner for just £30/year

Even if you have a non-UK driving licence, you can still join City car club.

All City car club vehicles are accessed with a smart-enabled membership card. You simply place it over the card reader on the windscreen and the car doors will unlock. Once inside, members tap their PIN into the onboard computer and grab the keys from the designated key storage area.

warning-32.png Since 1 January 2012, 5p and 10p coins are no longer accepted in the ticket machines in Edinburgh.

warning-32.png You can park for between 15 minutes and a maximum of 4, 6 or 9 hours depending on the parking place. The 9 hour parking bays are located in the extended zones where there is lower residential demand.

Parking Permit Zones

If you live within the city's Controlled Parking Zone then you can apply for a resident and/or visitor parking permit.

You can use the Council's interactive map of the Controlled Parking Zone to find which zone you live in or wish to park in.
