For those of you who don't speak French, same discussion in English: I am looking for ideas for a family of 4 (including 2 children of 3 and 6) for a week of holidays in Edinburgh. Any suggestions of fun activities please? Any good places for lunch? Finally, is it easy to travel around the town?
HI, Transport around the city is pretty good though at the moment much of the centre is a building site as they try and get the tram system installed. Princes Street, the main street through the centre is inaccessible and all buses are going along George Street which is the next main road up. This shouldn't be a problem because the buses are still running but ask your bus driver to tell you the nearest stop to where you want to go, otherwise you may find yourself sailing past it and having to walk back a long way. All the bus routes through town have changed and it's making navigating the city a bit more challenging.
Good things to do - lots of people like the Castle though I'm less keen myself. There's also the recently refurbished National Museum which is great, especially if it turns cold or starts raining. The Camera Obscura is good and the holographic exhibition on the same site is excellent. There are good parks in the Meadows and in Princes Street Gardens. Also worth checking out the Botanic Gardens which are north of the centre but great for the kids to run around. Oh and if you fancy going to the pictures, at 10 am every morning they are showing Puss In Boots at the Vue cinema at the top of Leith Walk - it's £1.50 for adults and children. Very cheap trip to the pictures!
