Lesbian and gay relationships in Scotland
May 03, 2015 at 5:54 AM
Since 2001 in Scotland, the age of consent has been the same for gay men and women as it has for heterosexuals. The law no longer criminalises any relationship where both people consent and are aged 16 and over.
However, there are still difficulties for lesbian and gay people in a society where some people and faiths do not fully recognise a person's right to a gay relationship.
In Scotland it is illegal for young people who are both under 16 to have oral sex or sexual intercourse even if they both consent.
