No taxi at Waverley!
February 16, 2012 at 6:55 AM
Taxis and cars are to be banned permanently from Edinburgh Waverley Station as part of anti-terrorism measures.
Interesting article on the BBC today. The move from Network Rail (company that runs the station)will come into force at the end of July as part of anti-terrorism measures for the London 2012 Olympics. Waverley is the biggest train station in the UK outside London and Network Rail has been "required to comply with legislation to remove vehicles prior to the London Olympic Games".
If the measure is an interim precaution during the games, why will cars and taxis be banned permanently?
This might prove to be a headache for passengers with reduced disabilities and folks with buggies, pushchairs or heavy luggage. Network Rail is working to identify suitables zones as close to the station as possible to allow taxis and private cars to drop off passengers. Problem is, tram works are not over yet and the area around the station is one giant building site.
